Eurozone Retail Sales up by 1.5%

In November 2017 compared with October 2017, the seasonally adjusted volume of retail trade increased by 1.5% in both the euro area (EA19) and the EU28, according to estimates from Eurostat, the statistical office of the European Union. In October, the retail trade volume fell by 1.1% in the euro area and by 0.6% in the EU28. In November 2017 compared  with November 2016, the calendar adjusted retail sales index increased by 2.8% in the euro area and by 2.7% in the EU28.

Eurozone Trade Balance surplus at €18.9 billion

The first estimate for euro area (EA19) exports of goods to the rest of the world in October 2017 was €187.9 billion, an increase of 8.8% compared with October 2016 (€172.6 bn). Imports from the rest of the world stood at €168.9 bn, a rise of 10.1% compared with October 2016 (€153.4 bn). As a result, the euro area recorded a €18.9 bn surplus in trade in goods with the rest of the world in October 2017, compared with +€19.2 bn in October 2016. Intra-euro area trade rose to €160.0 bn in October 2017, up by 9.7% compared with October 2016.

Eurozone Industrial Production increased by 0.2%

In October 2017 compared with September 2017, seasonally adjusted industrial production rose by 0.2% in the euro area (EA19) and by 0.3% in the EU28, according to estimates from Eurostat, the statistical office of the European Union. In September 2017, the industrial production fell by 0.5% in both zones. In October 2017 compared with October 2016, industrial production increased by 3.7% in the euro area and by 4.2% in the EU28.

Eurozone Current Account recorded a surplus of €37.8 billion

The current account of the euro area recorded a surplus of €37.8 billion in September 2017. This reflected surpluses for goods (€35.2 billion), primary income (€9.7 billion) and services (€7.3 billion), which were partly offset by a deficit for secondary income (€14.3 billion). The 12-month cumulated current account for the period ending in September 2017 recorded a surplus of €346.4 billion (3.2% of euro area GDP), compared with one of €359.3 billion (3.4% of euro area GDP) for the 12 months to September 2016.
